Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten
This Kindergarten Private Tutoring class is a tailor-made class to prepare a kindergarten student with the skills needed for success in first grade.

Each time we meet, we will explore these subjects:
1. Welcome and introduction song - Your child will be warmly greeted and welcomed.
2. Date and weather - Through songs and chants, your child will learn today's date, the days of the week, and the months of the year. We will also focus on learning the concepts of "before" and "after" as it relates to the date.
3. Phonics - The student in this class should already be fairly familiar with individual letter sounds. We will begin blending the consonant and vowel sounds with the goal of reading short-vowel (CVC) and long-vowel (CVCE) words. We will also learn diphthongs and other "special sounds" to help the student read words that don't always follow the rules. This builds a solid foundation for independent readers. There will often be worksheets or hands-on activities to engage your child and encourage independent learning that can move outside of the classroom as well.
4. Language enrichment - Your child will continue to explore rhyme and rhythm while singing familiar songs and finger plays. We will also memorize poems from some of the best-known children's poets. This time will enrich your child's vocabulary while giving an opportunity to wiggle and have fun.
5. Number skills - We will review number recognition, counting, shapes, colors, sizes, and patterns while building on skills of addition, subtraction, before/between/after, and comparison (greater than, less than).
6. Science - Your child will explore topics such as fruits, birds, insects, the ocean, weather, our bodies, flowers, space, and more! This is a good time for the student to share his/her knowledge as well as learn vocabulary words to better describe what he/she sees going on in the world. Instead of one day being spent on a theme, we will extend the time spent on each theme in order to learn more deeply and reinforce vocabulary and scientific topics.
7. Social studies - Your child will tour the world while learning mapping skills. It's so important for young children to begin to discover that there is a world outside of their own community. We will learn about other cultures and begin to identify other countries and cities on a map or globe. You may wish to purchase a map or small globe for this subject if you choose, but it is not necessary.

These are some of the topics we will cover in our Advanced Kindergarten Circle Time:

Week of November 29 - Topics: Blends and short-vowel words beginning with the letters Ll and Tt, Counting 1-50 and Addition Family 1, "Mix a Pancake," Life Cycle of a Butterfly, Geography about Me (city, county, state, country)

Week of December 6 - Topics: Blends and short-vowel words beginning with the letters Bb and Mm, Counting 1-60 and Addition Family 2, "Mix a Pancake," Ocean Animals, Continents

Week of December 13 - Topics: Blends and short-vowel words beginning with the letters Rr and Ff, Counting 1-70 and Addition Family 3, "Who Has Seen the Wind?," Polar Animals, Continents and Oceans

Week of December 20 - Topics: Review of previously learned blends and short-vowel words, Counting 1-80 and Addition Family Review, "Who Has Seen the Wind?," Winter weather, Arctic and Antarctic regions

To help encourage hands-on participation, I would like the student to have a magnetic white board and dry-erase marker with eraser and a set of magnetic letters and numbers. These can often be purchased at a local dollar store or big box store.

While we will have a great time singing and wiggling around, this ongoing class is more intensive in learning.

I cannot wait to share class with your child and help him/her learn so much more about the world!

Welcome to my classroom! I enjoy using songs, finger plays, rhythm, and movement to help younger learners explore their world. I will help your child become a confident reader through a traditional, phonetic approach that has helped so many other children achieve success.

In my classroom, your child will first build a foundation by learning the letter sounds. This is a fun time of learning with hands-on projects, songs, finger plays, and rhymes to help your child connect the letters to sounds. We are also working to enrich your child’s vocabulary. Your child will progress to reading blends. This fairly short process is made more enjoyable with songs and games. Then the magic happens! We will begin to connect blends with ending consonants. Your child will suddenly have the “light-bulb moment” as he or she realizes that letters can connect to make real words not just sounds and blends. From that point, we will continue to add additional sounds of letters (eg. short versus long vowels) and special sounds as your child builds confidence and fluency as an early reader. This process is so rewarding, and I would love to help your child find success!

Of course you are always welcome to have your child join us wherever he or she is in the learning process. And if you are unsure, we can work together to find the best class for your child to feel confident and challenged.

My experience as a teacher has been fairly diverse. Even as a teenager, I was always busy teaching, either through my church or as a tutor at the elementary school. My official teaching path began after college in a private school where I taught kindergarten and third grade, as well as after school and summer programs. Throughout the years, I have also done private tutoring, particularly in reading. I then shifted my focus to home educating my three children. I am so grateful to have been present for so many of the “Aha!” moments. I have also had the privilege of teaching in small groups as a homeschooling mom as well. This past year I had the opportunity to begin teaching English online through a private company. It has rejuvenated my desire to teach the early years again. Now that my own children are teenagers and more independent, I am able to turn my attention back to working with other families.

In my limited free time, I enjoy gardening, reading, crafts, music, international cooking, and taking our dog for walks as a family.

I believe that every child has the ability to learn and that it is our job as adults to help each child find the right keys to successful learning. Young children are so curious and absorb learning like sponges. Why not take advantage and give them the best start possible?
