Tareas
1 hora por semana. For each lesson, students will receive check for understanding questions and worksheets to help reinforce learning. Check for Understanding and Worksheets are evaluated so that students can receive feedback on their understanding and progress.
Proyectos
Following the completion of certain units, students will have optional projects they are able to complete to further their learning or apply the information discussed throughout the course.
Evaluación
At the end of each unit, students will have the opportunity to show their mastery by completing a unit assessment.
Letra de calificación
If students would like to apply the course towards middle or high school elective credit, a letter grade or P/F can be assigned and I can complete their school’s elective credit application and verification. Please verify with your child’s school what their outside elective credit requirements are prior to enrollment.
Certificado de finalización
Upon class completion, students will receive a certificate of completion to celebrate their knowledge and progress in understanding of course content.

Get ready to dive into the exciting world of horses with Hooves & Habits: Introduction to Equine Science & Horsemanship! Perfect for beginners and horse lovers alike, this course covers the basics of Equine Science and horsemanship skills—from the  life stages of horses to identifying colors and markings, exploring both Western and English riding disciplines, and much more. You'll also discover different horse breeds, build essential horsemanship skills, and learn how to communicate effectively with horses to build trust & respect.

Our classes will include LIVE demonstrations with horses so we're able to learn and discuss using real examples in REAL time.

Lección 1:
Horse Life Stages, Colors, & Markings
 Learn essential equine terminology, explore the life stages of a horse, and understand key developmental traits for each life stage.

Lección 2:
Horse Breeds & Classifications
 Students will understand how selective breeding for specific traits led to the creation of over 300 horse breeds. Students will classify traits into color, conformation, function, or disposition. Students will explore 20+ horse breeds across several classifications- light, draft, and pony.

Lección 3:
Measuring Height & Weight of Horses
 Students will understand how to measure horses in the unit of hands. Students will learn how to estimate a horses' weight using a weight tape and a weight estimation formula.

Lección 4:
Western & English Tack
 Compare and contrast Western & English tack- including saddles, bridles, and bits.
Learn the basics of tacking a horse and checking for fit and comfort. Practice tying the "Texas T" knot.

Content is thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of students by incorporating various learning styles, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This course is designed to create an inclusive & dynamic learning environment.
Orientación para padres
Working with horses is an inherently dangerous activity. If students have access to practicing and applying course content directly with a horse, it should only be done so with a supervising, experienced adult.

Students will receive a course packet that includes guided notes and worksheets to assist with content engagement, understanding, and retention. Please print the materials prior to starting the course so students have materials available.

With 15 years of experience in education as both a teacher and administrator, I bring a deep understanding of effective teaching and engagement strategies. As a certified CTE: Agriscience teacher and barn owner/manager, I have a wealth of hands-on experience in equine care and horsemanship. I’m eager to combine my expertise in education with my passion for horses to teach equine science and horsemanship, sharing my knowledge and love for these magnificent animals with the next generation of learners.
