Geografía Bee 6: Geografía del este y sudeste de Asia y habilidades de pensamiento: ¡hagamos Kahoot!

Let’s challenge ourselves to a Geography Bee on East and Southeast Asia.  This class is part of a series designed to  help students have fun studying human geography facts.  Perhaps your student does not know much about China, East or Southeast Asia.  This class can serve to introduce students to a new region of the world, before more in depth study.  On the other hand, perhaps your student knows this region very well.  Then this class can serve as a review.  Trivia fans are welcome!  This geo bee (#6) focuses on locations, economics and society in China and the nearby region.  Class will begin with a review of 22  terms such as: country names, locations, aspects of the economy and life. This geo bee includes chronological thinking, analyzing data and evaluating a source.  To help students prepare,  handouts are provided that include a set of map practice handouts on Asia,  plus a list of terms  and ideas (with and without definitions) that are covered in our challenge.  Students can practice with  all of the handouts if they want to be more competitive, before class begins.   Web accessible, interactive map resources for practice are provided.  We will begin class with a review or introduction of terms, ideas and locations, highlighting those that students have questions about.  
Students will then participate in a Kahoot challenge that offers a choice of four possible answers to each question, along with a picture clue. Kahoot offers a game show format.  Questions include simple definitions, comparisons of similar terms, application questions and examples. This quiz is designed for students with a basic understanding of the map of East and Southeast  Asia.  Students can practice with an interactive, online map puzzle.  The link for this resource is shown on Handout #1 and in our greeting message after a student enrolls.  During the Kahoot, students will see the correct answer to each question immediately after each answer is tallied, allowing them to reinforce correct understanding.  
After our Kahoot quiz is completed we will review the more challenging terms as time allows.  Our contestants (students) will have approximately four opportunities to work with vocabulary and the map of East and Southeast Asia, reinforcing learning through repetition in a variety of formats.  Students will receive a certificate of accomplishment that recognizes completion of the class and their Kahoot results.
