If students are interested more in the sports broadcasting than students will have the ability to record a broadcast and Mr. Gullett will listen and provide feedback along with a wide range of examples to model from.Experiencia de clase
This Flex Course will examine the wide range of career opportunities in sports broadcasting and sports podcasting. The main theme of our course will be sports, but we will also be looking at different careers in radio, broadcasting, and podcasting. Also, our class will provide the tools to publish our very own Sports Podcast (with parent approval and permission). Our class lessons will also look at the process for writing a podcast, finding topics, and creating a sports broadcast and podcast. We will also examine how to become an excellent sports broadcaster (either color commentary or play-by-play). The majority of my professional career has been as a history and English educator. However, I have coached speech and debate as well as working in the sports broadcasting business specifically radio/sports broadcasting. I played two years of college baseball, and excited to bring my experiences into the classroom where students will have the opportunity to develop a hands on project of creating their own podcast and practicing sports broadcasting. Likewise, my knowledge in this field stems from having been a speech and debate coach, taught debate and public communication course (in public school and on Outschool), I have been a sports broadcaster/announcer, and the creation of my own published sports podcast as well. I am excited to bring my experiences into the classroom where students will have the opportunity to develop a hands-on project of creating their own podcast. Class Note – Students will be providing answers to questions and comments of their classmates on a weekly discussion board in Outschool. Each week our class will be covering different topics of podcasting from picking a genre, a show theme, writing a podcast, learning the podcasting technology, recording a podcast, and with permission from parents the possibility of evening publishing a podcast. Each week our class have weekly learning activities related to the different topics that all go into recording and publishing a podcast. Class Structure and Routines: 1. Weekly Discussion Questions (Seminar Style or Helpful Collaborative Group Sharing and Thinking). The Discussion question or topic will be posted the Sunday before the week that we are on. Please provide your discussion comments by Wednesday of that week and please respond to at least two of your classmates by the Friday within that week. Responses to other classmates will change from class to class depending on how many students are in the class. 2. Most weeks of the course we will have a learning activity (assignment) to assist with the specific sports podcasting and broadcasting topic of the week. 3. Power Points, handouts, and/or templates (learning activities) will be provided during the week. 4. A weekly video by Mr. Gullett (Mr. G) will be posted on Sunday along with the discussion question or topic. 5. Communication: Students and Parents are always welcome to email me with any questions or needs before and during the class. I am normally really good at responded to emails in a timely manner. However, please do allow 24 to 48 hours to respond and/or reply back (just in case). 6. Please remember with a Flex Class/Course we do not meet via Outschool/Zoom. This class is set up for learners to perform the activities on their own schedule and time. Mr. Gullett is available for help and assistance via our Outschool Classroom email. Planning, Organization, and Brainstorming our Sports Podcast Show and/or Broadcast (amount of shows like a TV season) and writing of a Specific Episodes with a Sports Theme (introduction, segments, and conclusions) 2. Students taking the sports podcasting and broadcasting class will learn a wide range of skills. Students will learn about different sports podcast themes, developing/creating a show, and how to publish. Public communication and speaking skills will be examine as well (delivery, tone, pitch, volume). This class will also provide skills in writing specifically to writing a podcast show (but some of the skills can be used for writing papers). The main topics focus on public speaking in the recording podcast format, technology for recording and publishing a podcast, creating a podcast, and publishing a podcast.

This class is all about podcasting. When it comes to podcasting there are several softwares that are standard on many technology devices like voice memos and GarageBand. There are so many different recording and podcasting softwares that it could a long time to teach them all. Our class focuses on one specific podcasting software - Anchor - which is a totally free website. It does require registering on the Anchor website. Another recording software that we look at in class is GarageBand, which is free on all Mac/Apple products from Mac computers, IPADS, and IPhones. The last recording software we look at is called Audacity, which is a totally free download for Mac and PC.

Hello,
My name is Michael S. Gullett. However, all my students tend to call me Mr. G! I have 20 years of being a teacher and a principal in Alaska. Plus, another six years as a young pup growing up in Alaska. I have had the wonderful opportunity to work and travel all over the state of Alaska. Many of the villages and towns are only accessible by plane or boat.
During the vast majority of my career, I have taught history/social studies; but while teaching at a high school near Anchorage (Alaska) I became a member of the Seminar or the Socratic Method to teaching. In the seminar method students and their take on learning the content through readings (many time primary documents), creating together deep philosophical questions to expand our learning, and discussion. These three aspects a main parts to a seminar class, but I can ensure future students and parents that there is so much more to this style of teaching. The Zoom technology is a perfect for examining history and language arts through the seminar style. I use the seminar style to ask my students deep philosophical questions that allows us to think deeply about history. In my classes, history comes alive is so many different ways. My teaching experience includes elementary to high grades, different contents or curriculums, special education resource, as well as Career and Technical Education.
I have been teaching on Outschool since 2020 (hard to believe it has already been four years)! I really enjoy teaching on Outschool, because I am able to teach history, language arts (writing), public speaking, and other unique classes from sports broadcasting and podcasting to classes about Alaska. I am looking forward to your son or daughter signing up for one of my classes!
I have two Master Degree: One in Educational Leadership and the second in Career and Technical Education. You will find that I do a wonderful job of getting to know my students and their future interests. This allows me to connect history to my students interest. I also have a BA in History and Secondary Education. My main emphasis for history was Native American and the Frontier (West) History. Even though this was my focus - I love all history from American History to World History and even a cool topic like 1960s Rock and Roll. One of the main reasons for joining Outschool is having the freedom to offer interest historical and language arts topics, finding out what my students are interested in, and creating classes on topics that in a traditional school I might not have the opportunity to go in depth. I know that you will find my classes fun, engaging, creative, and an excellent bridge between high school and college level content. I am also looking forward to creating exciting history and/or geography lessons for younger grade, because many times traditional schools no longer have the time to dive into these extremely fun ares.
