Beginner Level
This self-paced course offers a flexible and engaging way for students to learn essential wilderness survival skills. It’s ideal for learners who prefer a more adaptable study schedule and want to develop practical knowledge they can use in real-life situations. The course focuses on core survival topics such as building shelters, starting fires, finding and purifying water, signaling for help, navigating in nature, and handling emergencies. Students will also explore basic foraging, understanding weather hazards, using survival gear, and preparing for unexpected challenges. The course finishes with a fun and meaningful Survival Challenge Week to apply what they’ve learned. Students will build confidence and independence as they learn to make decisions, solve problems, and rely on their own judgment. These are life skills that go beyond the outdoors and help young people feel capable and prepared in many areas of life. The course also strengthens critical thinking by encouraging students to evaluate risks, think clearly in pressure-filled situations, and adapt quickly when plans change. In addition to the physical skills, the course teaches mental focus and resilience—important tools for managing stress and building emotional strength. By learning how to live respectfully in the natural world, students become more aware of their environment and the importance of sustainability. They’ll gain a deeper appreciation for nature while learning how to care for it. Along the way, they’ll also practice teamwork and communication through class discussions, sharing ideas and supporting each other’s learning. This class allows your learners to watch the pre-recorded videos and do them at a time that is FUN for them! You can also spend extra time on the topics your child is most interested in. Since this is a Self-Paced class with no live meetings, students can log in at a convenient time to complete the week's lesson. The videos will contain the information required to give students a good understanding of each topic and each one will include homework for the students to undertake during the week, as part of a project. After watching each video and completing the homework assignments, students will be provided with feedback and the specific next steps on how to improve or adapt. Time frame for the Week: Mondays – The teacher will post the information needed for the week. Students can submit questions. Tuesdays - Wednesday – The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any homework assignments and answer any questions in the discussion. Thursday – Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom for teacher feedback and discussion. Friday – The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students. Saturday - Sunday – The teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week. Please note: This course requires no prior experience. For parents/families who feel their child would benefit from this course, but their budget does not allow for it, I do offer a number of discounts for families of lower income. Please message me with the course, dates and times you are interested in to learn more about the discounts I might be able to offer.

This wilderness survival course covers a variety of topics that are crucial for safe and effective survival in the wilderness. However, some content may be intense or require extra caution, especially for younger learners. Here's an outline of considerations and precautions:
Use of Tools and Equipment: The course includes practical demonstrations on how to use survival tools such as a pocket knife , fire-starting kits, and other potentially hazardous equipment. It's important for parents to ensure that their children understand the safety protocols associated with using such equipment.
Fire Making: Lessons on fire making involve handling flammable materials and actual fire creation. Parents should supervise any practical exercises at home to prevent accidents.
Foraging and Hunting: Discussions and demonstrations on foraging for edible plants and hunting for food might involve handling of sharp tools and the identification of potentially poisonous plants and dangerous animals. Parents should ensure that learners do not try these activities without proper supervision.
Simulated Survival Scenarios: The course includes simulated survival scenarios that might involve mock navigating or dealing with mock emergency situations. These activities are designed to be educational but could be physically demanding and mentally challenging.
High Risk Situations: The handling of risk management techniques will be covered.
Recommendation: This course is best suited for learners who are mature enough to understand the seriousness of the topics and can handle the physical and mental challenges presented. Parental involvement in overseeing the practical aspects of the course is strongly recommended to ensure safety and to reinforce the learning objectives in a controlled environment.
