In this STEM Club, we will explore science, technology, engineering and maths each week through challenges and different activities related to the outdoors. Themes include camping, survival skills, self-sufficiency and much more! Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week of 6/1/25 - The Art of Survival: Setting Up Camp Week of 13/1/25 - The Art of Survival: Solar Power Week of 20/1/25 - The Art of Survival: Making Popcorn Week of 27/1/25 - The Art of Survival: Making a Trebuchet Week of 3/2/25 - From Surviving to Thriving: Making Compost Week of 10/2/25 - From Surviving to Thriving: How Does a Sundial Work? Week of 17/2/25 - From Surviving to Thriving: How Do Windmills Work? Week of 24/2/25 - From Surviving to Thriving: Building a Dam Week of 3/3/25 - From Surviving to Thriving: Planting Seeds Classes will include all elements of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These are all areas of learning that our kids need to be comfortable with to excel in the future. STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors. Please note, there will be reading and writing tasks in some classes. There will also be maths challenges that suit the theme of the week. Supply List
There will be an activity sheet to download or print each week. There may also be some household items needed for experiments. Learners need to bring a notebook, pen, pencil and crayons to each class.
