Calling all Harry Potter fans! 🧙

Welcome to our Harry Potter book club! Join us for an exciting journey through Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In this book study, we will uncover the mystery of the Chamber and dive deep into Harry’s second year at Hogwarts. We will meet once a week to discuss two chapters, sharing our favorite moments and exploring the magical world together.

COURSE DETAILS

Format:
9 Weeks, 2 Lesson Per Week

Discussion Focus:
Favorite moments, character development, key themes, magical creatures, plot twists, and foreshadowing.

Activities:
Each discussion will be followed by a fun, creative activity inspired by the world of Harry Potter: 
🪄 Brew your own Polyjuice Potion (DIY project)
🪄 Create your very own Howler
🪄 Explore the magical creatures of the Forbidden Forest
🪄 Participate in trivia challenges & more!

Book Synopsis:
In The Chamber of Secrets, strange events begin happening at Hogwarts, with mysterious messages appearing on the walls and students being petrified. Harry, along with his friends Ron and Hermione, must solve the mystery of the Chamber before it’s too late. With new dangers, old enemies, and magical creatures like never before, Harry’s second year is packed with intrigue and adventure.

House Cup Competition:
Students will have the chance to earn house points each week by completing optional assignments. The house with the most points at the end of the course will win the coveted House Cup, complete with a printable certificate!

Lección 1:
The Worst Birthday & Dobby's Warning
 In our first lesson, we’ll dive into Harry’s life at the Dursleys and meet Dobby, the house-elf. We'll discuss themes of freedom and friendship, exploring how Harry’s world contrasts with the wizarding world. Students will share their thoughts on Harry's struggles and Dobby's warning, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Lección 2:
The Burrow & At Flourish and Blotts
 This week, we’ll visit the Weasley family home, the Burrow, and explore the magical shop, Flourish and Blotts. We’ll discuss the importance of family and community, as well as the significance of characters like Gilderoy Lockhart. Activities will include designing a magical shopping list and discussing our favorite magical items.

Lección 3:
The Whomping Willow & Gilderoy Lockhart
 We’ll analyze Harry and Ron's daring rescue from the Whomping Willow and their introduction to Lockhart. Discussions will focus on bravery, consequences of actions, and the humorous aspects of Lockhart’s character. Students will create a comic strip illustrating a scene from this week’s chapters.

Mudbloods and Murmurs & The Deathday Party
 In this lesson, we’ll tackle themes of prejudice with the term "Mudblood" and attend Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party. We’ll explore how these themes affect relationships and how the wizarding world mirrors real-life issues. Students will share their thoughts and participate in a ghost-themed trivia game.

Some content in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets may be upsetting or scary for certain learners, including themes of danger, magical creatures like spiders and ghosts, and elements of suspense related to the mystery of the Chamber. The book is rated PG for mild peril and frightening scenes.

Completion of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone It’s recommended that students have already read the first book in the series to understand the background of the story and characters.
