Lesson 1
Introduction to Classical Literature And The Socratic Method of Discussion
Introduction to the class and its objectives using simple language. Icebreaker activity: Ask students about their favorite fairy tale characters. Read-aloud: "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen. Socratic discussion: Discuss honesty, vanity, and the importance of speaking up. Use visuals or props to engage students in the conversation.
Lesson 2
"Thumbelina" by Hans Christian Andersen
Socratic discussion: Explore themes of friendship, resilience, and finding one's place in the world. Encourage students to share their thoughts on the story's magical elements.
Lesson 3
"The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Andersen
Socratic discussion: Discuss themes of self-acceptance, diversity, and transformation. Use simple language to explain the concept of inner beauty.
Lesson 4
"The Wolf and the Fox" (Traditional Fairy Tale)
Socratic discussion: Explore themes of cunning, friendship, and consequences. Encourage students to predict what might happen next in the story.
Lesson 5
"Little Red Riding Hood" (Traditional Fairy Tale)
Discuss safety, trust, and the importance of following instructions. Use role-playing or puppets to reenact key scenes from the story.

As a parent and educator in a classical school, I am well-versed in literature and discussions adapted for young children. I am also a graduate student in Speech Language Pathology, so I have expertise and background knowledge of communication and language development.

Detalles: If desired, parents can opt-in to have their students receive a grade. Grades will be sent to parents at the end of the week. Students will either receive: “1”, the student is not yet approaching expectations. “2”, the student is approaching expectations. “3”, the student is meeting expectations. “4”, the student is exceeding expectations. Their will be based on categories participation, cooperation, and comprehension.
We will be reading 5 classic stories throughout the week.
