This 10 weeks beginner's class focuses on completing puzzle chapters before creating his or her very first games in Codespark. Each self-pace puzzle chapter would cover one or more of the following concepts: 

Chapter 1: Algorithm and Sequencing 
Chapter 2: Loops
Chapter 3:Parameters, Sequencing, and Looping 
Chapter 4: Events
Chapter 5: Conditional Statements

Once the puzzle chapters are completed the learner can then move on to the Learn section found in each game or story mode. 

At the beginning of each puzzle chapter, I would introduce the coding concept with a short PowerPoint presentation. Once the presentation is completed each learner would be encouraged to complete the corresponding puzzle chapter on their own with the understanding that almost all levels have multiple answers and thinking "outside the box" is required. Each puzzle chapter is self-pacing. Once you complete 8 out of 17 levels, the next Chapter will open. Depending on the learner's ability each puzzle chapter can take from 15 - 30 mins to complete.

Week 4: Chapter 4: Events
Week 5: Chapter 5: Conditional Statements
Week 6: Learn Section 
Week 7: Learn Section
Week 8: Learn Section
Week 9: Learn Section
Week 10: Learn Section 


Please note:

- This class is a small 'snip' of a larger Ongoing class called Coding With the Foos Club: Create Your Own Game or Story.

- You must complete this class before joining the Ongoing class.

- In this class, we focus on 5 puzzle chapters and the Learn section for each create mode. 

- The puzzle chapters are self-pacing where the content builds. 

- If you miss a class, you can schedule a make-up class with me. 

- This class can be taken many times. 

- This class is an introduction to Computer Science and is suitable for children between the ages of 5 - 9  with no previous experience.

- Codespark is completely word-free, perfect for pre-readers.

- The Codespark App is free to play in my classroom in most countries. If you are unable to join the classroom, you will need to purchase a personal subscription. Codespark does have a 7-day free trial. 

- Once the learner has a subscription to my class he or she will have access to my Codespark classroom. 

- Codespark App must be downloaded to the learner's device before coming to the class. 

- A classroom code will be given to the learners after the PowerPoint presentation. 

- For the best experience please use Codespark on a separate device from Outschool/Zoom.

Orientación para padres
In this class, we are going to be using a third-party tool called Codespark. Each learner is required to download the app to his or her device before class starts. A learner's account would be created for each learner. This account can be accessed through my Codespark classroom using a classroom code. This classroom code will be given to the learners after Week 1 Powerpoint presentation. Please note, Codespark is free to play in my classroom in most countries. If you are unable to join the classroom, you will need to purchase a personal subscription.

With over 10 years of experience teaching children in both small group and 1-on-1 settings, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to each class. My background includes working in both classroom and home environments, where I’ve developed the ability to tailor lessons to meet the unique needs of each learner. This experience allows me to create a supportive and effective learning environment, whether we're focusing on phonics, reading comprehension, math, or coding.

I hold a certificate of completion for codeSpark Ignite, an online professional development course designed to help PreK-5 educators teach young students the basics of Computer Science and the foundations of computational thinking. This training, coupled with my extensive experience, has equipped me with the skills and confidence to effectively teach coding and computer science concepts to young learners.

I am deeply committed to helping learners succeed and believe that no learner should be left behind. My teaching approach is learner-centered, combining patience, encouragement, and interactive methods to ensure that each child gains confidence and mastery in the subject area. Whether your child needs extra help, a deeper understanding of the material, or just a little boost in confidence, I am here to support them every step of the way.
