This class features a weekly conversation about one of the great shows ever: Stranger Things!

**PLEASE NOTE: Since creating the video intro to this class, I have updated the class to last for 45 minutes.***

Specifically, we look at one or two characters from the Stranger Things universe each week and analyze them from a feminist point of view. This means examining what they say and do, how they dress, how they interact with other people, what opportunities they have or don't have in their lives, and how the writers of the show treat them.

There are two main goals in this class: Learn about the characters by analyzing them from a feminist perspective, and learn about feminism by analyzing the show.

Because I teach from an intersectional feminist perspective, this class is 100% affirming of trans and non-binary students, affirms the anti-racist goals of Black Lives Matter, and recognizes that feminism is about more than just gender. It's also about all the different marginalizations people experience, including race, gender, sexual orientation, ability/disability, nationality, ethnicity, neurodivergence, language, economic status, and more.

This class is social and fast-paced. Students are encouraged to participate, either with or without their cameras on. You can subscribe for as many or as few weeks as you'd like! That's one of the benefits of the ongoing class format.
Metas de aprendizaje

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have been an English professor for 10+ years, which involves teaching through a feminist lens. My terminal degree, an MFA in Creative Nonfiction, focused on feminist narratives. In addition, my undergraduate degree in English with a minor in History prepared me for a career as a feminist educator. At the collegiate level, I teach education majors how to address diversity issues in their classroom in a class called Teaching Diversity Through Young Adult Literature. My essays on feminism and pop culture have been published by Jezebel, Everyday Feminism, Role Reboot, and Salon. I have also been teaching feminism courses on Outschool since early 2020.
