Assessment will be made when the students reach French 1 standard. I will indicate the grades students aiming for GCSE or iGCSE should achieve, BUT grades for these exams are provided by the exam boards. This class is designed to run alongside my Club français class or my Speaking and Listening class. I will access students across both classes. This class will have an end of Cycle Project, where students will present a written and spoken component on an agreed topic. It is also suitable for the first year of French GCSE (no external exam). I have taught a French 1 course for 2 years for an American online school with Outschool. The students reached French 1 standard and above. Learners may join the Year Long class at the beginning of any Cycle. Depending on the learner's level of French across Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar, they will need 4 to 6 Cycles to reach French 1 level. The GCSE course will usually take 2 academic years to complete. Week 1. Homework: Finish the letter to your penpal. Week 2. Share your letter to your penpal to the class. Homework: Un weekend bizarre. Write 5 sentences about what you USUALLY do at the weekend (present tense) and what you did on your WEEKEND BIZARRE. Week 3. Share your Weekend Bizarre homework to the class. Homework: 'Corrigez les erreurs' worksheet. Start your Project work - find 3 activities that you did on your Dream Weekend. Week 4. Look at the homework task together. Homework: Corrigez les erreurs worksheet with -ir verbs in the passé composé. Week 5. Homework: Complete your Project work for next week. Week 6. Present your Project - telling us about your usual weekend (present tense), your Bizarre Weekend (passé composé) and your Dream Weekend (passé composé). If time, we will play some word games.

Students will learn how to communicate with native French speakers. They will be able to talk about themselves. They will be able to understand native French speakers speaking at a steady pace.Students will learn the foundations of French grammar - genders, persons, how regular -er and -ir verbs work in the present tense and the passé composé tense.

We will use regular -er verbs to talk about what we usually do/are doing, then use the same verbs in the passé composé to talk about what we have done.
Reading: read a short penpal letter about what your French friend did during the Christmas holidays.
