Class Experience

In this class, young learners (ESL students are welcome, too!) can pick any of the fun, educational games in my collection to play along with. As soon as greetings are done, your learner is welcome to pick any of the games on the list, or ask what it's about. If siblings are playing together, they're welcome to vote on the game they want, take turns, or let me use a spinner application to pick for us.

Games can feature math, reading, memory, shapes, patterns, object-matching, object-sorting, counting, grammar, synonyms, antonyms, analogies, parallelisms, logic puzzles, navigation, US state names, riddles, and search & find puzzles.

After that, depending on the game, learners are encouraged to call out their answers, circle their answers with the screen-draw tool, or take turns playing each round. If the learner needs a hint, I'm happy to help them in any way they need, and some of the games allow me to adjust the difficulty for each player. I try to fit the gameplay to the learner's level. (If your learner is above the recommended age level, but you think they would enjoy this class anyway, they are welcome to try it out!)

Learners are also welcome to bring their own games to class, but will need parental permission for any games that feature chat rooms, an account, in-app purchases, or any game with an ESRB rating higher than E.

My Teaching Style:

Demonstration and communication are my favorite tools to use in class. If the learner needs a hint, and some of the games allow me to adjust the difficulty for each player. I try to fit the gameplay to the learner's level.
Students are welcome to speak up at any time during this class. We're here to have a party!

Game list:
(A copy of this list with pictures will be provided on the classroom page upon signup, to help little ones pick the game they want to play. At the beginning of class, I will pull up the full list in a screen share so everyone can vote for which game they want and figure out the screen-drawing tool if they want.)

I Spy: Junior | In this game, we need to find all the items listed in the poem.

Millie's Math House | Millie the Moo Cow has invited us to her house, to play lots of fun counting, shapes, and math games.

Little Monster Private Eye: The Mummy Mystery | While investigating an ancient tomb in Egypt, Professor Pickle got locked inside. Now, it's up to the Chief Inspector and Detective Kerploppus to find a way to get him out!

Zoombinis: Logical Journey | The Zoombinis are on a long journey to find their new home. Can you solve all the puzzles they'll face along the way and get every Zoombini to Zoombiniville?

ODS: Air Explorer | The little robot's been kidnapped! We need to travel across the US by plane to find all the keys and rescue him! But... Which way is it to Maine, again?

Class expectations:

As is Outschool policy, I do not allow bullying or teasing. Everyone is welcome in my classroom and learning and creativity are always something to be encouraged.
I do not ask students to remain on camera for more than the initial class check-in required by Outschool policy.
If your learner has any unique needs to be accomodated, please let me know! I'm happy to help and want this class to be as fun and imaginative as possible for every student.

Required Experience:

For native English speakers, no experience is required.

For ESL students, this class will be more fun for students with at least a little English practice, but it's not necessary. If they don't know the vocabulary enough to follow the riddles, I can show them pictures of the item they need to find and they can practice repeating the words that way.
