Class Experience

The learner will be guided to transfer and apply phonic and spelling rules when constructing sentences in the writing process, specifically Stages 2 (Draft) and 3 (Edit). The learner will continue developing vocabulary, in context and sentence structure.
This will particularly be emphasized in Stages 2, 3 (grammar) and 4 (Revision). The learner will also receive instruction in the area of language fluency by developing written work, in paragraph format, with an introduction (engaging hook, clear topic sentence), body (main idea with supporting details) and conclusion (topic restatement, final thoughts). The learner will create a written work through the stages of pre-writing (brainstorm), draft, edit (spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar), revision (language fluency, voice, word choice) and publish. The number of paragraphs and length of each paragraph will scaffold as the learner's skills progress. The learner will use organization aids to develop, organize and format ideas. The learner will progress to five types of writing with a focus on descriptive writing in all types of written work.

The learner's pricing has been adjusted to the regular $30 cost, given he is no longer eligible for a sibling discount. This is a private parent requested, pre-determined tutoring package for:

Class dates are:
April 5th, 12th, 19th, 25th

Classes meet on:
Wednesdays, 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm, EST

Individual sessions are not based on levels, but specific areas where learners are developing a skill, require intervention or are ready for an extension of skills in the construction of written work. The learner will be referring to pre-writing brainstorm organization aid, while developing a draft on a second organization aid. The learner will need a workspace that will allow side-by-side work between organization aids. A folder to store organization aids and published packets is strongly advised.

The learner is required to have all necessary materials prepared and ready prior to entering the waiting room.

Learning Goals

The learner will demonstrate understanding of the writing process by constructing well-developed written works, using the 5 stages of writing.
