US Grade 4 - 6
This is a Flex class. We will not meet in person. Lessons will be posted each Sunday and students will have until the end of the day on Friday to complete the lesson and submit both their artwork and writing. Feedback will be given to students by the following Monday. Writing isn’t always that fun, and some students struggle to stay engaged. That is why this class uses Art Journaling to make writing more enjoyable and impactful. This unique combination of writing and art is a fun and creative way to improve the writing skills of your 9-12 year old learner. Earlier lessons will focus on ways to improve the learner’s ability to plan and write opinion paragraphs by taking apart a paragraph and examining each sentence. Then we will look at ways to expand our ideas into 4 paragraph essays. There is also an art lesson that focus on color theory and using color schemes in Art Journaling. “The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.” Adages like this are time-honored words of wisdom, and this class uses a new adage each week for inspiration. We discuss its meaning and how it can apply to our lives. Then we make an artistic interpretation and write an opinion paragraph about what was discovered. These hands-on activities allow students to use the bite size weekly writing and art lessons provided in a meaningful and engaging way.
