*All of the content presented in this animal science class is factual and has been researched through at least three current scientific resources and aligns with Next Generation Science and Common Core ELA standards-based curriculum guides. (CCSS for speaking/listening standards and NGSS for science standards.) * If your child loves animals, they probably have favorite animal stuffies and figurines that they absolutely love. These meaningful toys come to life through play, taking on personalities and voices unique to your child's imagination. These important toys help children develop early social and emotional skills and are very often, their first friends. These types of toys are also perfect even as they grow older for strengthening communication skills, fueling creativity and sparking an ongoing interest in science and nature. In this weekly ongoing class for students ages 4-6, your child can bring a favorite wild or pet animal stuffy or figurine to class each week and share up to 5 things about them. They will also learn 5 scientific facts about a new animal, brought to class by the teacher as the "guest host" of the week. (This class is the junior version of my weekly Wild World Animal Science (Ongoing) class) This is the link to the weekly ongoing class for ages 6-9: https://outschool.com/classes/wild-world-animal-science-ongoing-ages-6-9-871DXZON *Each week, there will be a suggested theme or topic animal listed. I will bring in a stuffy or figurine of the topic animal and teach students 5 Fast Facts about that animal. (Each week, I will post the list of suggested animals in the classroom, along with any updates.) OBJECTIVE: Each week, students will bring their favorite animal stuffy or figurine of their choice to share. They can match the animal theme of the week if they have the same or similar, but they can also just bring in their favorite. They will share up to 5 fast facts or interesting things about their figurine or stuffed animal friend, be it wild or pet. For example: "What is your animal's name? What is their favorite snack? Where would they live in the wild? What is their favorite activity? Do they have a favorite color? How did you meet your little friend? " The ideas are endless. I will supply a list of suggestions in the classroom, each week before class. SUPPLIES FOR CLASS: Each week, Students should bring to class the following: 1. Favorite animal stuffy or figurine. Does not have to match the suggested theme. Please bring only 1 to 2 animal friends per class so that all students will have a chance to share. 2. Weekly worksheet, template or coloring sheet (posted in the classroom each week) along with pencils, crayons or markers to complete. (A notebook or plain paper is also fine) *Let's stick to only 1 or 2 stuffy or figurines PER class so that all students will have a chance to share and participate in class activities. DURING CLASS: *Introductions/Roll Call *Teacher introduces the animal of the week as the "guest host" *Students take turns sharing up to 5 facts about their stuffy or figurine friend *Teacher shares 5 Fast Scientific Facts about the "guest host" (topic animal) *Weekly class activity: Animal coloring sheet or independent student drawing (time permitting) *Goodbye Song or Movement Activity Students can also upload and share photo snaps of their coloring/drawing activities to the classroom comments, as well as pictures of their animal stuffies or figurines engaged in a favorite activity.
