Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Hello and welcome to Wildlife Science: North American Gray Wolf edition!

OBJECTIVE: In this wildlife science class, students will learn important facts about the characteristics, habitat, diet, life, and the ongoing field work behind the conservation status of the North American Gray Wolf.

DURING CLASS:
For the lesson, I will be using an onscreen presentation that I created with photos and informational text. In addition, I expand the educational content by integrating elements of math, geography and vocabulary. As I present the content of the lesson, I will be asking students guided questions about the material. I will answer student questions after every 3-4 slides. Students can raise their hands with questions about the lesson so far.

CLASS ACTIVITY:
After the lesson presentation, we will identify (by labeling, matching or coloring) the physical characteristics of a Gray Wolf. An activity worksheet will be available for download in the classroom, and I will display it onscreen during the activity. If you can't print, students can bring paper to draw their own, or just follow along onscreen.

MUTING:
These classes can have up to 5 learners, so students will need to know how to locate and use the MUTE control on their device as we will be muted during the lesson to control audio static, echo and personal background distractions for the group.

QUESTIONS:
I will stop to check for questions about the current material every 3 to 4 slides, so students can raise their hands and then unmute when called on for their question. Students can also use the CHAT feature to type in questions or comments or answers to questions.

PARTICIPATION: Students can use the chat feature for questions or comments that are not questions during the lesson presentation. I will be giving students chances to participate by raising hands for teacher directed questions every 3 to 4 slides. This is so we can stay on-topic and dive into the material.
Learning Goals
Students will learn facts about the physical characteristics of Gray Wolves as a species such as size, features, diet and habitat.
Students will learn how scientists use these characteristics to compare and classify a species such as the North American Gray Wolf.

I have a BA in Elementary Education and my credentials are uploaded to Outschool. I taught classroom science, art and language arts to both preschool and elementary aged students for almost twenty years before coming to the Outschool online platform. As a child, I first developed a strong love of nature and animals through books and hands-on experiences. As a teacher, I'm constantly reading, researching and learning everything I can about wild animal conservation and the natural world.
