Class Experience

This class will include instruction from the teacher and interaction with both the teacher and other students.  Through 4 different classes we will cover telling time and writing time to the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, five minute and minute increments.  When the students are comfortable telling & writing time we will also apply what we've learned to real-life situations and answer story problems using addition and subtraction in regards to telling time.

I also have a one time class called "What time is it?" that is an introductory course, only covering telling time to the hour that can be taken before this short course if you wish.  

Planned Schedule (subject to change based on student needs): 

Week 1--Time to the hour & half hour
Week 2--Time to the quarter-hour
Week 3--Time to the 5-minute interval
Week 4--Time to the 1-minute interval

Learning Goals

The student will learn how to tell time & write time on analog clocks.  The student will practice time in hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, five minute & minute increments.  The student will answer story problems involving adding & subtracting in time.

Other Details

Supply List

If desired--the students can make a clock before class.  This gives the student their own hands-on manipulative and adds a little bit more fun to the class.  However, this is not required if you don't have time or the resources to complete.  There are many examples of how to do this project at home online. When students master this skill it adds to their independence and feeling of success.  My personal experience as a special education teacher taught me to make math fun and relatable to our lives.
