I will always provide extension activities in our Outschool classroom that correlate directly to the books we read in our classes.  There are several activities/worksheets for each book such as comprehension, grammar and mechanics, word work, and more. There are new worksheets for every week since the activities match the books.

These are always uploaded immediately after each class, and again, are optional. If you have your learner complete them, the worksheets do not have to be submitted back to me; however, they can if you would like to have your learner receive feedback on their work.

Assessments Offered
After 1-2 sessions when I get a solid understanding of your child's current reading capabilities, I will begin a fluency check with your learner in every session and share the results after class.  These are quick checks that take just a few minutes at the start of each class. This assessment measures how many words read per minute, how many errors made or skipped words in one minute, and how many words read correctly in one minute. This will produce the reading/accuracy rate percentage.  **Available for students reading at a FIRST GRADE level or higher. If I am working with a learner reading at a kindergarten level, we will begin these fluency checks once they read my first grade curriculum. 

If any words are read incorrectly or skipped, those words will be shared in the feedback that I provide in the Outschool classroom after each session. In addition, those missed words are practiced at the start of each class until your learner masters the word(s) missed. 

The goal of fluency checks are to read 100% accuracy rate (no mistakes) with as many words read as possible within a minute by the end of the six weeks spent on the same fluency passage. After six weeks, they are given a new passage at a slightly higher text complexity level. This process repeats every six weeks with a new passage.
*!!*Fluency assessments are NOT the books that we read for the core part of our sessions. These checks only take a few minutes at the beginning of each class.
