Watercolor Critters!

In this one time class little artists will create watercolor critters and stretch their skills with painting, drawing, cutting (optional), and pasting. We will start by going over all our  materials and making sure we have a proper work surface in case any paint escapes our paper. Then we’ll get our brushes nice and wet and start choosing colors. We’ll talk about how water “wakes up” the paint and helps the colors mix together. We will also learn a trick to use our breath to blow the watercolors in different directions around our paper to give a splatter effect. After we’ve filled our page with several watercolor “bodies,” we’ll let them dry for a few minutes while we turn our attention to the template that I provided. We will gather our next supplies, color or cut any pieces of the template we want to use, (unless they’ve been pre-cut: please see the parental guidance section on scissor use) and begin bringing our blobs of paint to life. We’ll use markers or crayons to draw on arms and legs, use glue to stick on eyes or other features and have fun exploring the unlimited possibilities of our creativity! By the end of class your artist will have a whole page full of critters and the know-how to keep creating more.
