Grading
Tutoring is generally ungraded. However, on request, the instructor can grade example assignments or provide formative (informal) assessment and feedback.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Students can choose the topics to be covered, pulling from a broad list of science classes: Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Geology, general STEM, or test prep. Agendas are shaped by student needs and interests. In addition, higher education material can be explored ranging from 100 to 300 level classes for students on accelerated tracks or taking college credits. In order to make best use of the time, students and parents are encouraged to reach out beforehand with as much information as possible: intended topics, homework problems, student experience and level of readiness, etc. The instructor has a collection of curriculum and practice problems from over 10 years of HS and higher ed teaching, as well as a practical knowledge of how to use technology as a tool for learning science. This will be leveraged along with student interactions to create a learning experience as unique as the learner.
Learning Goals
As topics will vary, learning goals are broadly applicable. By the end of sessions, students should be able to:
Explain scientific concepts to the instructor or their parents that they could not previously explain.
Plan and execute an experiment to study important scientific concepts (hypothesis formation, identification of variables, data gathering, visualization/graphing, lab writing).

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I taught math at the high school level for over 6 years, and have taught part time in higher education for 5. As an engineer/scientist working in optics and materials science, I have supported research and development both at small companies and large (including two FAANG companies). Setting up experiments, monitoring complex systems, quality control, and presenting research results all require one to utilize skills from every topic in math. Even calculus. I have taught it and I have lived it.
