Welcome to upper elementary science! This series of 3 classes (part 1, part 2, part 3) can be used as your student's sole science course for their year or as a supplement to another science class or curriculum. This class is designed to spark your learner's interest in science and curiosity about the world around them! We will work through the My Pals are Here International Science curriculum which takes a thematic approach to learning science. This first course will focus mainly on physical science topics. We use the 5E model of learning science (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate). Each week students will get to complete a hands on experiment or activity and practice executing the scientific process. Our classes become small families. It is important for students to come to class on time ready to participate in their learning with the appropriate materials for that day and their cameras on and limited distractions around them. Here is a sample schedule of our class. I will adapt this schedule to fit the needs of the learners in each section. Week 1: -Welcome to Science! -characteristics that cam be inherited Week 2/3: Heredity -Blood Types -Family Tree Project Week 4/5: Man and the Environment -Sea shell experiment -natural resources -pollution -Trash reimagined Week 6/7: Adaptations -What are adaptations -Coffee filter gills -Create your own animal project
Learning Goals
Students will be able to execute the scientific process to conduct experiments about the world around them.
Students will learn personal responsibility by coming to class prepared each day.
Students will learn to raise their hand and take turns speaking.
Students will learn to participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners.
