Welcome to "Unsung Heroes: Exploring the Impact of Women Throughout History"! Are you curious about the amazing women who changed the world, but whose stories are often overlooked in traditional history classes? In this #academic class, we will dive deep into the lives and accomplishments of women who broke barriers and made significant contributions to society. From trailblazing scientists to revolutionary philanthropists, we'll explore the lives of women who challenged societal norms and paved the way for future generations. We'll also discuss the obstacles these women faced and the strategies they used to overcome them. Through lively discussions, multimedia presentations, and interactive activities, you'll gain a greater understanding of the crucial role that women have played throughout history. Get ready to be inspired by the unsung heroes who shaped our world! Each class we'll discuss the childhood, education, hobbies, family life, and life accomplishments of one woman. Throughout the lesson students can interact on Nearpod through memory games, drawing challenges, quiz games, word searches, and short answer questions. Then we'll discuss the question “How did this woman change her community and the world?” Nearpod is a free interactive educational program that I use to keep students entertained and engaged the entire class. It also allows me to provide students with instant feedback on their work. More information will be provided about how to access Nearpod when you sign up for the class. Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I am a certified Social Studies teacher in both Utah and North Carolina. In my training and experience teaching in the classroom and virtually I have found that the best way to approach sensitive topics is to address them explicitly and have an open conversation with my students. We discuss the mindset of historical societies, the moral implications of their actions, how it affects us to today, and why it can be difficult to talk about these subjects at times. All discussions will be age appropriate.
I make it clear to my students that they are always welcome to meet with me individually if they are bothered by any of these discussions. I also ask them, and the parents to contact me if they are concerned with my class content or delivery. These topics can be difficult to navigate and I am always trying to improve!
