Unlocking the Path to Happiness: March 2025 Escape Room

This escape room-style activity explores happiness in education using UNESCO and UN materials. Students complete challenges to build critical thinking and teamwork skills. They connect global well-being ideas to their own lives.

Assignments
1 hour per week. Students will be guided through a series of prompts to create an action plan to improve the happiness of their community. Then they will reflect on what they learned and how happiness impacts learning.
Assessment
Students and families can request an assessment using a Common Core-aligned rubric.

This escape room is designed to be highly interactive and encourages students to collaborate, research, and think critically while solving engaging challenges.
🕵️‍♂️ Structure of the Class:

1️⃣ Introduction & Mission Briefing (5 minutes)
Learners are introduced to the challenge: unlocking their invitation to a global education summit!
Overview of key concepts: happiness, well-being in schools, and global education initiatives.

2️⃣ Escape Room Challenges (15-20 minutes)
Puzzle 1: Discover the meaning of the International Day of Happiness by decoding clues.
Puzzle 2: Explore a 360° Happy Schools classroom to find key principles of well-being.
Puzzle 3: Fact-check UNESCO’s research on happiness in education.
Final Challenge: Create a mini action plan on how to promote happiness in schools.

3️⃣ Debrief & Reflection (5 minutes)
Students discuss what they learned and how happiness impacts learning.
A final message from UNESCO encourages students to take action!

Learning Needs
This class is designed to be inclusive and engaging for all learners, including those with different learning styles (visual, auditory), learners who benefit from structured activities, or prefer independent work.
Parental Guidance
This class includes research-based content from the United Nations (UN) and UNESCO on happiness in education. While the material is student-friendly, learners will be directed to external websites (UN & UNESCO) to gather information. Parents may wish to supervise younger learners as they navigate these resources. 💻 Technology Note Students will access: ✔ A Google Form for puzzle submissions. ✔ Official UN & UNESCO websites for fact-checking activities. All external resources are age-appropriate and used for educational purposes only. No accounts are required. Full name and an email will be required, especially if feedback is requested.
Pre-Requisites
To make the most of the experience, students should be able to: 1. Read and navigate online resources (UN & UNESCO websites). 2. Follow multi-step directions to complete puzzles. 3. Write short responses (1-3 sentences) using evidence.

✅ A web browser (Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox).
✅ Headphones or speakers (recommended for interactive elements).
✅ A notebook or digital document (for note-taking and final challenge reflection).
✅ Google Forms access (No account needed; used for puzzle submissions).

✏️ Printed version of the note-taking guide (provided before class for those who prefer handwritten notes).
🖥️ Second screen or split-screen setup (if students like to view resources while completing challenges).

With over a decade of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and international education, she has designed engaging, student-centered learning experiences that inspire curiosity and critical engagement.

As the founder of World Class Curricula, Aja develops ELA and Global Citizenship Education resources tailored for diverse learning environments, including homeschools, microschools, and afterschool programs. Her work integrates interactive learning technologies, project-based learning, and equity-focused research methods to create meaningful, real-world connections for students.

Aja’s expertise includes:
