Students will demonstrate their learning through engagement in class, the performance of skills practiced in class, and the innate desire to engage voluntarily in musical activities as part of their play.Class Experience
This is a specially designed class to engage very small (micro-groups) of young students in highly active musical experiences. Each week, students will practice singing, movement, and experiences in reading and using musical notation. Students will learn songs from the rich heritage of folk music. Together in class, we will use these songs to explore melodic and rhythmic notation. Students will use the notes studied to create their own rhythmic and melodic motifs. With the support to the teacher, the students will use sound from their environment, including body percussion and basic household items, to create original musical expressions, accompaniments for the songs we sing, and even their own, new musical themes. Each class, students will learn a new song. In each subsequent class, we will build on the song(s) we learned previously and use them to explore and create with notation, body percussion, and simple musical instruments created from household items.
