This Week in Zoology and Marine Biology News
Natasha lawrence MSc PGCE
In this ongoing class, students will be provided with an opportunity to dive into and discuss the latest scientific news, all whilst socializing with their peers!
In this ongoing class, students will meet weekly and be kept up to date with real-world science by reviewing and discussing the most recent news articles. This class was created to challenge students and expose them to new vocabulary related to the topics. It is also a great way for students to fully appreciate and question the amazing world that surrounds them! We will read through the articles together as a class, summarize what we have read and finally, students will be encouraged to...
As a science teacher with a bachelors degree in zoology, currently studying for a masters in conservation biology, I am more than qualified to teach this class. I am also currently completing research of my own!
The chosen scientific article will be provided to students prior to the day of class. It is not compulsory to read the article ahead of time, but if students would like to get a better understanding or an insight into the weeks topic, they are welcome to check it out!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class will involve discussing zoology related topics in current events, so may mention potentially controversial topics that some may be sensitive to such as evolution, reproduction, climate change. The class will focus on multiple perspectives about current events. Unfortunately, some images featured in the articles may show animals that have died but I will try to keep this to a minimum but is sometimes unavoidable when tackling serious topics. I will also try my best to ensure the articles chosen will be age-appropriate
Scientific articles will be sourced from online reputable sources such as BBC, National Geographic and New Scientist.
