US Grade 3 - 5
In this ongoing class, each week students will learn about various topics within writing and create a new piece of writing. The goal of this class is to help students become confident and skilled writers through regular writing and focused exercises. Each week we will explore a new topic related to writing with focused exercises in the following areas: Class will typically be structured in the following format: 1) Checking in with each student and introductions 2) Weekly Word (Vocabulary) 3) Introducing the week's topic 4) Practice with the topic 5) Sharing work with teacher and peers Before each class, the teacher will announce the topic of the week and provide any related materials to students within the classroom. I encourage all students to keep a regular writing journal or notebook for class, but it is not required. Themes of writing will vary, and I encourage all students to write about topics that are relevant to them such as video games, animals, books, friends, etc. To ensure your student gets the most from this class, it is recommended that students joining this ongoing class have the ability to write simple sentences combining a noun and verb. Example: The dog ran. Students should also been introduced to the concept of a paragraph which includes a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion. This class and the discussions will primarily be led by the teacher and focus on the topics of writing. As an educator, my goal is to create a safe and collaborative environment for learning. I encourage all students to be participants in the classroom and interaction in live meetings is an important component of these classes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
I am a homeschool mom to 3 children, all of various writing abilities. With each of my children, I've found an incremental approach to writing to be the least intimidating and provided the most confidence in the writing process. Additionally, I am currently a graduate level student earning my masters in teaching English.
