Class Experience

Does your child love all things Pokemon? Well then this is the camp for them! Each day of this camp consists of a completely different Pokemon activity that your child will love!

Day 1: Today is our first day of I Love Pokemon Camp! We start the first day with introductions. Each student will introduce themselves and tell us who their favorite Pokemon is. Then we will play a game of Pokemon Scattergories. In this game Pokemaster Joe will call out a letter of the alphabet and each student has to write down a Pokemon who's name begins with that letter. If Pokemaster Joe calls out the letter "C" students can write down Charmander or Charizard. After each round students will be able to share their answer with the rest of the class. If any students are having trouble Pokemaster Joe will help guide them to an answer. Our first day is a great way for students to get comfortable with their new Pokemon friends at camp and prepare them for a fun week!

Day 2: Pokemon Escape Room - All of the students will work together to get out of the Pokemon escape room! Team Rocket is right on our tail and we only have 25 minutes to escape the room. I know that we can do it if we work as a team!

Day 3: I Love Pokemon Cards - Does your child love Pokemon cards? Today we will get to share many of our Pokemon cards with friends who also love them! During this class Pokemaster Joe will call out categories (Water Type Pokemon, Pokemon with HP higher than 100, etc) and students will have the ability to share a card that fits into that category. Students will have fun showing off and sharing their Pokemon card collection with new friends!

Day 4: Name that Pokemon! - How well do you know every Pokemon? Students will be given numerous clues about a Pokemon and will work together to Name That Pokemon! Your child will have a blast guessing each Pokemon during this fun game!

Day 5: Pokemon Trivia - How much do you really know about Pokemon? This trivia competition will ask about current and past Pokemon topics including the anime, cards and history. The last few minutes of class students will reflect on their week and discuss their favorite activity from the week.

This camp is a great way for students who love Pokemon to meet new friends who have the same passion!

Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Health/PE
Throughout my almost 2 decades in education, I have worked with students from Preschool all the way up to college. After receiving my education degree from SUNY Brockport, I received my Masters' Degree in Educational Administration (School Building Leader and School District Leader) from Lehman College. I have spent over a decade working for NYC DOE and also spent two years working at Barnard College, the sister college of Columbia University.

My experiences with students in all of these age groups taught me one thing, over and over again -- one size fits none. You can't mass produce education, it only works well if it's individualized, and if lessons are taught in ways that excite, interest and engage each student. In 2012, I started a company focusing on unique and individual learning techniques. Our in-person classes taught a myriad of educational lessons through mediums that gripped my students -- we taught math concepts through movement games, language and writing skills through art, etc. During the coronavirus pandemic, I transitioned that same concept to my Outschool classes -- it's a platform that I love because it allows me to tap into kids' niche interests in an even more drilled down way than I could do in person. Now, whether my younger students are learning about a certain calculation technique via a Pokemon character, or my older ones are discussing their true passions as a way to figure out how to get into their dream colleges, I'm most satisfied with my work when I'm meeting kids right where they are. Seeing a child learn something new while he or she is showcasing expertise in a subject area of passion is a win for me and for the student. I learn from my students every day, and I'm thrilled when they feel like they've grown and gained in each class, too.
