Beginner Level
The scientific method is talked about in elementary through high school. You may have read about it and even had it presented to you in different ways. Now you can see it in action! In this class, we will spend four weeks together and three of those weeks, we will do experiments together that utilizes the scientific method. There are some supplies you will need to have for each experiment that is listed below per week. Class 1: This first week, we will discuss some key terms, what they mean, the steps of the methods and then put those steps into practice by doing a simple experiment. I will present the question to you and you will hypothesize before we do this experiment. We will walk through the steps of the scientific method. Supplies for this is a penny, water, 2 small cups, 3 drops of soap and a water dropper. Class 2: This second week, we will review our terms and then we will jump right into our question and your hypothesis. I will give you three different questions; you pick the one you want to make your hypothesis and then you will follow the steps of the scientific method to prove or disprove your hypothesis. The supplies needed for this week is a small individual pack of life savers (different colors), 2 cups, water and ice cubes. Class 3: This third week, we will again jump into the question and your hypothesis. You will only have the one scenario this week. You will work through the steps of the scientific method to prove or disprove your hypothesis. The supplies needed for this week are 200 un-popped popcorn kernels, 1 cup, water and a microwave.
