US Grade 7 - 10
In Chemistry 104 we will build on the information from Chemistry 101, 102, and 103. In this four-week class, learners will utilize their knowledge from past classes and learn new skills to design an experiment. We will start by going over the scientific method and the steps to designing an experiment then each learner will choose a question about a chemical reaction they would like to design an experiment around. Each week during class learners will learn how to set up each part of the scientific method and they will be given a challenge to complete to help them design their experiment.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain an understanding of each step of the scientific method and how to develop a test and experiment using the steps of the scientific method.
Syllabus
4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Introduction of the scientific method
Learners will choose a question they want to answer about a chemical reaction. The challenge this week is to create a hypothesis.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Introduction to Writing Procedures and Materials
We will go over the learners' hypotheses and discuss materials and how to create a procedure for their experiment.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Testing the experiments!
This week learners will follow their procedure to test their experiment and collect data. The challenge this week is to write a conclusion from the data they collected.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Sharing their findings with the class
An important part of running experiments is sharing our data and conclusions with our peers this week the learners will share their conclusions with the class.
At the end of our four weeks, learners will have a deeper understanding of how to design an experiment, run an experiment, and write a conclusion that they can share with peers.
