The Baby-Sitters Club Book #3: The Truth About Stacey (Book Club)
Class experience
Join me in this book club as we join Kristy and her friends in their adventures with the Baby-sitters Club. This will also be a fun way to sharpen your reading comprehension skills, make inferences, and engage with your peers. This is the third book in the Baby-sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin. Prior reading of book #1, Kristy’s Great Idea and book #2, Claudia and the Phantom Phone call is not required. Prior to the start of each class, learners will need to read 3 chapters of The...
Goals: Engage in learning dialogues with the teacher and peers. Search the text to select appropriate information when answering questions. Practice using story clues and prior knowledge (schema) to make inferences about the story. Practice using context clues to discover the meaning of unknown words Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) Predict story events Engage in critical discussion of shared texts. Read for the sheer joy of it, learning to value one another as readers and learners.
The Baby-sitters Club was one of my favorite book series when I was a kid. I also have a Masters in Reading, and it is my goal to help your child think deeper about the texts that they read. I can not wait to share this wonderful series with your child.
Learners will need a copy of the book The Baby-sitters Club: The Truth About Stacey by Ann M. Martin (not the graphic novel). Ideas for finding the book include Amazon, Walmart, Target, libraries, audio, or used book store. All other materials will be provided in the Outschool classroom.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Main character is a 7th grader, so bras, boys, and diets are mentioned in the story. Divorce is mentioned briefly - Dad is remarried and “doesn’t pay much child support”. Language: “stupid”, “dumb”, “shut-up” mentioned briefly. **Topic deals with Stacey having diabetes and her concern with her disease.
