Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will develop ideas involving themes from relevant literature and express their thoughts verbally.
I am an experienced classroom teacher with a Bachelor's degree in education. I have taught classes involving current events with sensitive topics to teenagers and pre-teens. I led a book club for teens as part of an afterschool program in my previous school district. I have many years of experience counseling and engaging with teens and young adults as a volunteer camp counselor for 5 summers.
Reading: Independently, 200-400 pages per week Reading Guide Questions: Independently, approximately 10 questions per week Padlet (Optional): Discuss and respond with classmates as desired
Learners will need to purchase or borrow a copy of the book listed in the class description for the corresponding week.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be informally assessed through responses on their reading guides and through verbal participation during class.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
Some books contain mature content, including sexual assault, gender identity, suicidal thoughts, terminal illness, murder, and racism. Learners must be mature enough to read about and discuss the content of these novels with other members of their peer group.
