Class Experience

 Students will be able to:
~identity the seven plot elements
~identify and discuss the various elements of character development
~identify tone and mood
~make predictions
~identify simile, metaphor, and personification in the text
~identify conflicts various characters experience
~write brief summaries of specific passages of the text
~compare and contrast characters in the text
I am a certified K-6 and 9-12 grade teacher with 23 years of teaching experience.
Students will have a reading assignment and a brief writing assignment to complete before each class, as well as a creative final project.
~the ability to print out various handouts provided by teacher, or student may draw/write/copy the handouts on own paper ~highlighter/pencil for annotating (or familiarity with digital annotation tools if using digital copy of text) ~notebook for taking notes (or digital method of note-taking) or sticky notes ~misc. items as needed based on student's choice for final project (poster board, markers, other art supplies)
I respect the opinions each student/family has about the pros/cons of grading. Families may choose to have no grade given for the class/course or to have a grade given based on the following:
~attendance 10%
~participation (discussions and completion of homework and class work in order to be an active participant in each class meeting) 60%
~final project 30% Students will choose to create one of the following: one-pager, or poster, or drawing, or Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the novel to the movie, or they may suggest a different option.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need the novel Stormbreaker in hard copy or digital format, but they must be able to annotate the text.
