Research proves children that do not read during the Summer lose two to three months of reading skills. However, kids who do read tend to gain a month of reading proficiency.

Beginner - Advanced Level

I will boost confidence and learning with an online State Standard Individualized skill plan, which provides comprehensive coverage of Reading strategies, Writing strategies, Vocabulary, and Grammar, as well as mechanics topics! This format involves much interaction and feedback in an encouraging environment. We will cover topics such as main idea, author's purpose, theme, text structure; expository, persuasive, and descriptive writing; Greek and Latin roots, figurative meanings, context clues; parts of speech, sentence writing, capitalization, and punctuation.

Learning Goals

Summer reading is critical to a child's ability to not only retain information learned the previous year, but also to grow in knowledge and critical thinking skills for the coming year. I will assess the needs of individual students to strengthen weaker skills and advance stronger skills in order to be ready to begin the next grade.

As a parent and educator of 25 years, I know what the students need in order to be successful for the upcoming school year. Furthermore, I have a Master's Degree in Education and have taught Reading, Writing, and Language for most of those years.
