Class Experience

The summer is for reading! From Percy Jackson to Jane Eyre, whether you've been assigned a book for school or whether you've chosen to read for fun, this class is here to support you in keeping your reading skills sharp and making sure you're ready when you go back to school in the fall.

Sessions will provide support, guidance, and accountability for students in grades 7-12 with assigned or self-selected summer reading books.

In our first session, we'll go over the book(s) you've been assigned and/or you've chosen, as well as your goals and any assignments you'll need to complete. We'll talk about your experience as a reader and any challenges you typically encounter with reading. Then we'll make a plan to help you meet your goals.

In subsequent sessions, we'll discuss the book. We'll review the plot and characters, and talk about what you think of the book so far. We'll look closely at any sections that gave you trouble and discuss any questions you have. Depending on the age and learning goals of the student, we'll practice literary analysis skills and plan/take notes for summer reading assignments and assessments.

Reading schedules and learning plans are tailored to the individual needs of each student. As needed, I will supply supplemental resources and readings to aid in comprehension. If you happen to be reading a book I'm not familiar with, I will read it before our next session - guaranteed!
