My goal for each tutoring session is to support your learner in ways that work best for their learning style and needs; therefore, our most effective Math experiences will occur during our live sessions! However, if you wish for your child to continue practicing our tutoring skills between sessions, I will often provide written or virtual practice options as optional homework attached to my class summary and feedback after each session. These are not mandatory assignments but are optional to support your learner's continued progress. I will often include answer keys for you to check their solving between classes, or they may bring the completed worksheet to our next session for me to review with them.Assessment
During our sessions, we will utilize a variety of virtual learning tools which will provide continuous feedback on your learner's progress in real time. As their tutor, I will continue to keep a record of their continued progress on each of the virtual tools we use, and the parent/guardian may also request a progress report of these skills and scores at any time.Class Experience

❕Note: This private tutoring experience is offered exclusively during the summer - June through August. Need extra Math support throughout the school year? Check out my course: "(School Year) Middle School Math - Individualized Tutoring & Flexible Curriculum!" _____________________________________________________ Let's help your child review, rebuild, and even extend upon middle school math skills, grow as a logical thinker, and support their confidence as a mathematician along the way! Whether your child will be entering middle school for the first time next school year or they have just wrapped up their final year of middle school by the start of summer, the tutoring curriculum within this course has been designed to focus on building core middle school math skills applicable to a variety of grade levels and courses as well as offering flexibility to you and your child in selecting units that best fit their learning journey, needs, and interests. Throughout this 30-minute one-to-one private tutoring experience, your learner will receive individualized support from Ms. Ashley during each session in a way that best fits their strengths, needs, and current learning level or style as well as their short or long term math goals set by themselves and you in preparation for their new school year and upcoming math course. 🏆Ms. Ashley’s goals throughout tutoring are to (a) provide your learner with a variety of engaging, interactive learning tools and practice sets to support their understanding and review of previously learned math concepts, (b) share multiple representations and additional reteach explanations of skills that they may need extra support with, (c) use a variety of flexible solving methods to show them multiple ways to achieve logical answers, and (d) constantly encourage their confidence and growth as a learner! Although this class can be booked both as a one-time meeting or an ongoing recurring session, learners who meet with Ms. Ashley regularly will also experience frequent spiral reviews of previously practiced skills as an important tool to continue building knowledge and revisiting related skills even while learning new ones. _____________________________________________________ 📑During each tutoring session, your learner will participate in the following learning activities with the support of Ms. Ashley along the way. Each activity will be tailored to meet your learner’s specific goals and will also be aligned to their former and upcoming grade level math curriculum. ☑️(Tutoring Activity 1) Guided Lesson - For the first 10 minutes of class, students will explore a guided, skill-specific lesson led by Ms. Ashley. Each lesson will be reflective of one of the skills included within the curriculum unit that you and your child choose before our first session together (*see curriculum unit options below). Guided lessons will incorporate interactive virtual tools or online textbooks shared with students at the beginning of the session within which they can collaborate with Ms. Ashley during the learning process and have direct access to learning resources throughout the session. ☑️(Tutoring Activity 2) Monitored Practice - During the next 10 minutes of class, students will have the opportunity to explore what they have learned (with additional teacher support as needed) by immediately practicing their new skill using interactive virtual practice tools. Such practice sites may include (but are not limited to) Desmos, Khan Academy, IXL, and/or SplashLearn. Virtual practice tools will be intentionally selected by Ms. Ashley to best support student practice, allow for solving collaboration between teacher and student, and also provide your child with immediate feedback as they solve. ☑️(Tutoring Activity 3) Independent Practice - For the final 10 minutes of class, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their independent understanding of the session's new skill(s) by playing a skill-based virtual game using such platforms as ABCya!, Kahoot, and/or Gimkit. This provides students with a fun way to test their knowledge of the current skills and allows Ms. Ashley to see what progress has been made and what may still need to be revisited during the next session. _____________________________________________________ Upon registering for this course, you and your child will have the flexibility to choose the curriculum unit(s) you would like your child to focus on throughout this summer tutoring experience. Regardless of the unit you choose, each lesson within the unit will follow the session structure above during each meeting. I encourage you to select the unit(s) that provide your child with the best review of skills they have previously struggled with or will help them extend their readiness and sharpen skills for their upcoming math course next school year. 📚Unit 1: The Number System (14 lessons) Types of Numbers and the Number Line Positive and Negative Numbers Absolute Value Factors and Greatest Common Factor Multiples and Least Common Multiple Fraction Basics and Adding & Subtracting Fractions Multiplying and Dividing Fractions Adding and Subtracting Decimals Multiplying Decimals Dividing Decimals Adding Positive and Negative Numbers Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers Multiplying and Dividing Positive and Negative Numbers Inequalities 📚Unit 2: Ratios, Proportions, & Percents (8 lessons) Ratios Unit Rate and Unit Price Proportions Percent Percent Word Problems Calculating Sales Tax Calculating Discounts and Markups Tables and Ratios 📚Unit 3: Expressions, Equations, & Functions (13 lessons) Expressions Properties of Operations Like Terms Order of Operations Equations Solving for Variables Solving Multistep Equations Solving and Graphing Inequalities Word Problems with Equations and Inequalities The Coordinate Plane Relations, Lines, and Functions Slope Proportional Relationships and Graphs 📚Unit 4: Geometry (14 lessons) Geometry Basics Angles Quadrilaterals and Area Triangles and Area Circles, Circumference, and Area Three-Dimensional Figures and Cross Sections Volume of Rectangular & Triangular Prisms Volume of Pyramids Surface Area Angles, Triangles, and Transversal Lines Similar Figures and Scale Drawings Polygons and the Coordinate Plane Translations and Reflections Rotations and Dilations 📚Unit 5: Statistics & Probability (8 lessons) Statistics Basics Calculating Median, Mode, and Range Calculating Mean (Average) Line Plots Histograms Box and Whisker Plots Scatter Plots Two-Way Tables ❔Does your child need help with a specific summer math assignment or curriculum intentionally assigned by their former or upcoming math teacher?
