Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this course, students will be introduced to foundational topics taught in any standard first year high school chemistry course. Completing this course will make the chemistry class easier during the academic year. Students will learn about matter, classification of matter, and the changes matter undergoes. Students will gain deep understanding of the structure of the atom, including the electronic structure, and will gain various insights about elements on the periodic table based on their locations on the periodic table. This is also a suitable course to review and refresh what students have learned in the past before taking AP chemistry.

PowerPoint presentations, practice problems and simulations will be used to teach. I will use online assessments to check for student understanding. Worksheet packets that go along with the presentations and homework problems will be provided. Students are expected to take some notes as they fill in the blanks on the handouts. This class is an interactive class - students will have the opportunity to work with their classmates. When in doubt, students are encouraged to ask questions; I will be assisting students while they work. We cover the listed topics in depth and there will be homework in this course. Students will need to keep up with the classwork and the homework to get the full benefit from this course since later materials will build on earlier materials.

The recording of each session will be available to enrolled students after attending one live session (as long as there are students present in each session). This is meant to help learners review or catch up if they miss anything during class as the class may have diverse learners.

note: No classes from July 4th to 7th due to the July 4th holiday in the US
