Class experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
4 lessons//1 Week
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Intro to Portraiture and Shapes
We will train out eyes to observe and draw what we see rather than what we know. You'll be able to draw realistic noses, eyes, and mouths using shapes and lines.
Lesson 2
Proportions and Accuracy
We will explore proportions of the face and experiment with continuous contour line drawings of photographs of portraits.
Lesson 3
Value and Lighting
Focus on how the light is hitting figures and explore the world of shading to create realistic portraits. We'll also begin applying everything we've learned so far onto a full sketch of a portrait.
Lesson 4
Create Your Final Project
Apply everything we learned onto a final art piece that you can hang in your art studio or frame on the wall! You're officially a portrait artist!
This class is taught in English.
Learners will improve their understanding of observing and drawing the face, and will be able to complete a realistic portrait sketch.
I received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2014, a Certificate in Fine Arts in 2022, and have 15+ years of experience in teaching music and art in a variety of education settings. Outside of Outschool, I teach middle and high school choirs, and high school fine art classes.
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
I will informally assess learner progress by observing their completion of drawings throughout and at the end of each class, while also leaving time for student questions and extra demonstrations. These informal assessments will inform me on where each learner needs more guidance or challenge.
Grades Offered
I will be providing clear visuals and reference photos and take pauses for questions or help. If text is presented in a slideshow I will be reading it aloud so learners do not need to depend on reading it themselves.
