Steam: Lego Letters
In this class, children will combine a variety of materials (canvas, paint, glue, and Lego) to make their own personalized Lego letter.

Beginner Level
The students will be guided through a step by step video on how to create their Lego initial. This will be done in a strategic with guidance from the teacher. The learners will be able to interact with me and ask questions as we go along. They are welcome to share their ideas or a different approach that they may want to use (e.g. perhaps they want to use a bigger canvas and do both their first and last initial). The learning goals for this class are for students to develop fine motor skills, creativity, spatial reasoning, and letter recognition through a hands-on, sensory-rich art activity by constructing letters using LEGO pieces on a painted canvas.

Pre-Requisites
Children should be able to paint, use a craft heat gun or blow dryer with assistance, and glue unassisted.
Supply List
-5x7 white canvas (this can be a variety of thicknesses or magnetic) -1 colour of acrylic paint that contrasts with the colour of Lego selected -1 colour (can be a variety of shades) of at least 30 pieces of Lego (difference sizes) -Heat gun or blow dryer -Tacky glue -Small dish or cup for the glue which is big enough for the Lego to be dipped into the glue -2 Paintbrushes (one for paint and one if your child is concerned with getting glue on their hands) -Pre-cut letter (provided) -Marker for tracing (contrasting colour to paint

I am currently finishing my degree in Early Childhood Studies and plan to pursue a Master's next. I have over 20 years of experience in a variety of early childhood settings. I'm passionate about teaching to children's strengths through STEAM and art activities. I love intertwining different subject areas for the best learning outcome.
