In this class, learners will discuss chapters of the Zoey and Sassafras book series. We will focus on reading comprehension as well as letting students have an opportunity to share their opinions of the chapters. Learners should read the assigned chapters before class, we will not read aloud during class but instead will focus on discussion and comprehension questions. Students will need to obtain their own copy of these books. They are sold at bookstores, on Amazon, or can be found at most local libraries. Afterwards, we will complete a hands on science, art, or language arts activity! This class will be an interactive way for students to share their love of reading and science! Each class will only focus on the two assigned chapters and will be a stand alone lesson, but these books are easy to read so you can jump read previous chapters if needed and jump into class anytime! Week of March 16th - March 22nd: Monsters and Mold Chapters 13 Monster Balloon - Empty plastic water bottle (must be able to fit balloon over the rim) - Balloon - 1/3 bottle filled with vinegar - 2 Tablespoons of baking soda - Tray - Permanent Marker - Funnel Week of March 23rd - March 29th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 1 and 2 Stream bugs and Viewer - One half-gallon milk carton or 2 liter soda bottle - Scissors - Waterproof, strong tape (e.g., duct tape) or a sturdy rubber band - Heavy, Clear plastic wrap Week of March 30th - April 5th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 3 and 4 Caddisfly - Playdough Week of April 6th - April 12th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 5 and 6 Grow A Rainbow - 2 equal sized cups of water - Several paper towels - Washable Markers (red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue, and purple) *No Class April 10th* Week of April 13th - April 19th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 7 and 8 Gills - Glass cup or jar - water - rubber band (big enough to fit around the rim of your cup) - Coffee filter - Koolaid packet or other colored drink mix - tray Week of April 20th - April 26th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 9 and 10 Pollution - green or brown playdough - water - large container (9″ x 13″ pan or similar size) - cooking oil - ocean toy animal (or any animal will do!) - A few paper towels - dish soap - spoon Week of April 27th - May 3rd: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 11 and 12 Rainbow Stones - River stones or large rocks - Acrylic paint/paintbrushes or paint pens Week of May 4th - May 10th: Merhorses and Bubbles Chapters 13 Newton's Disc PDF Cardboard Red,orange,yellow,green,blue, and purple marker scissors glue string Week of May 11th - May 17th: Caterflies and Ice Chapters 1 and 2 Shoe Design PDF Markers *This class will continue through all the Zoey and Sassafras books - students can join at any time! The books are easy reads and don't build on each other*

Some weeks, students will need assistance with cutting, gluing, or use of the microwave.
Supply List
Supply list will be provided one week in advance or upon enrollment. Students must obtain their own copy of the current Zoey and Sassafras book listed in class description.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello to Everyone! My name is Miss Meghan and I can’t wait to meet your child. I enjoy teaching a variety of classes for preschool and early elementary ages.
I hold a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. At the beginning of my career, I worked extensively with autistic children in home settings designing programs to help students access the world around them in an empowering way. After my oldest daughter was born, I became a licensed childcare provider creating a home away from home for many children to grow and learn. When my youngest daughter was born, I decided it was time to explore other options and that is how I landed at Outschool. I am so grateful for this opportunity and love meeting new learners from all over the world.
I have a passion for instilling a love of learning in young children through exposure, messy play, and fun! I strongly believe that letting children delve into learning at their own level and allowing for different types of learning styles sets children up for a life long learning journey.
In addition to teaching on Outschool, I currently homeschool my youngest daughter and am very involved in her homeschool co-op and activities. My oldest daughter, who was homeschooled until high school, is trying public school for the first year! I feel so grateful to have a career that I love that also affords me the opportunity to spend time with my own children as well. In my free time, I enjoy art, brainstorming new lesson ideas, cross stitch, and reading!
