Zoey & Sassafrass: A Hands on STEAM and Book Club Experience
Each week in this ongoing class, learners will practice reading comprehension skills and complete a hands on STEM or STEAM project based on the the Zoey & Sassafrass book series.

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this class, learners will discuss chapters of the Zoey and Sassafras book series. We will focus on reading comprehension as well as letting students have an opportunity to share their opinions of the chapters. Learners should read the assigned chapters before class, we will not read aloud during class but instead will focus on discussion and comprehension questions. Students will need to obtain their own copy of these books. They are sold at bookstores, on Amazon, or can be found at most local libraries. Afterwards, we will complete a hands on science, art, or language arts activity! This class will be an interactive way for students to share their love of reading and science! Each class will only focus on the two assigned chapters and will be a stand alone lesson, but these books are easy to read so you can jump read previous chapters if needed and jump into class anytime! Week of October 20th - October 26th : Wishypoofs and Hiccups Chapters 17, 18, & 19 Book Report PDF Pencil Markers Week of October 27th - November 2nd : Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 1 & 2 Gnome Prediction Paintings Paper Watercolor paints Pencil Black Crayon Week of November 3rd - 9th: Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 3 & 4 Germ Experiment Glitter Tray Plastic Blocks that can be easily washed Hand Sanitizer Access to a sink with hand soap and running water Week of November 10th - 16th: Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 5 & 6 Graphing PDF Coloring supplies Pencil Week of November 17th - November 23rd: Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 7 & 8 Spiders PDF 2 Pipe cleaners Pom pom Googly eyes Scissors Liquid Glue Week of November 24th - November 30th: Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 9 & 10 *No Class on November 28th* Week of December 1st - December 7th: Gnomes and Sneezes Chapters 11 & 12 Week of December 8th - December 14th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapters 1 and 2 Rolly Polly Bug Habitat - small cardboard box - nature items such as dirt, sticks, grass, leaves, flowers, etc. Week of December 15th - December 21st: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapter 3 and 4 Frog Life Cycle - PDF - Markers - Scissors - Glue Week of December 22nd - December 28th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapter 5 and 6 Sense of Touch Magical Creatures - Paper - Markers - Glue - Scissors - Various textured items such as bubble wrap, sand paper, feathers, fabric, etc. *No Class on December 25th* Week of December 29th - January 4th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapters 7 and 8 Marshmallow Slime - 1 tablespoon cooking oil of choice - 1/4 cup cornstarch, plus extra just in case - 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows - Microwave safe bowl - Spoon - Parents help to use microwave and stir slime Week of January 5th - January 11th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapters 9 and 10 Warm Blooded Animals and Fat - Two equal sized containers filled with ice water (large enough for your child's hand to fit inside) - Two plastic bags - Solid Crisco - Spatula -towel Week of January 12th - January 18th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapters 11 and 12 Carnivore, Omnivore, and Herbivore - PDF - Scissors - Glue Week of January 19th - January 25th: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapter 13 and 14 Scientific Journal - PDF - Markers - Stapler *No Class January 20th* Week of January 26th - February 1st: Dragons and Marshmallows Chapter 15 and 16 Solar Smores Oven - Pizza box with opening cut in lid (will provide picture) - Masking tape - Black paper - Aluminum foil - Plastic wrap - Smore supplies (graham crackers, chocolate, marshmallows) - Wooden dowel - Scissors *This class will continue through all the Zoey and Sassafras books - students can join at any time! The books are easy reads and don't build on each other*

Parental Guidance
Some weeks, students will need assistance with cutting, gluing, or use of the microwave.
Supply List
Supply list will be provided one week in advance or upon enrollment. Students must obtain their own copy of the current Zoey and Sassafras book listed in class description.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello to Everyone! My name is Miss Meghan and I can’t wait to meet your child. I enjoy teaching a variety of classes for preschool and early elementary ages.
I hold a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education. At the beginning of my career, I worked extensively with children with autism in home settings designing programs to help students access the world around them in an empowering way. After my oldest daughter was born, I became a licensed childcare provider creating a home away from home for many children to grow and learn. When my youngest daughter was born, I decided it was time to explore other options and that is how I landed at Outschool. I am so grateful for this opportunity and love meeting new learners from all over the world.
I have a passion for instilling a love of learning in young children through exposure, messy play, and fun! I strongly believe that letting children delve into learning at their own level and allowing for different types of learning styles sets children up for a life long learning journey.
In addition to teaching on Outschool, I also homeschool my two daughters who are my pride and joy. I feel so grateful to have a career that I love that also affords me the opportunity to spend time with my own children as well. In my free time, I enjoy art, brainstorming new lesson ideas, cross stitch, and reading!
