Class Experience

This is a one time class featuring one of the projects from my ongoing class "Seasonal Art Club". If your learner is already in my Seasonal Art Club, they will be working on this project in that class.

In art, "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents." ~Bob Ross

This class will meet live one time for 40 minutes and is intended for young learners ages 6 to 10 years old. Students will be guided through an art project featuring the State of Liberty. Directed drawings are step-by-step instructions modeled by the teacher to help young artists complete a picture. We will also learn some Science and fun facts related to the State of Liberty's physical appearance.

Students may need some extra time outside of class to finish coloring their drawings. Students will be able to share their drawings with the class.

I always complete the artwork along with the children using an overhead camera that allows them to see what I am doing every step of the way. I truly believe that art is in the eye of the beholder and that while I guide learners through a directed drawing, I encourage each child to make their work unique and cherish the differences in each piece of art presented at the end of class.

Learning Goals

We will work on directed drawings while also discussing scientific and fun facts. The benefits of directed drawing include enhanced listening skills, following directions, and fine motor development. Students will also have an introduction/review of vocabulary related to art, lines, and shapes.

I have been a certified teacher for 10 years. I taught 2nd grade for 8 years and now I teach Kindergarten! My students have truly enjoyed using art as an expression of creativity. Art has an amazing way of expanding the subjects of Math, Science, and Social Studies. I LOVE showing children how they can be young artists.
