US Grade 3 - 5
In this course, students will learn to multiply fractions. They will also learn to find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) between the numerator and denominator. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to practice their mental math skills when finding the GCF and factoring it out of the fraction. In the first meeting, students will review their multiplying skills and be introduced to multiplying positive fractions. Students will then be introduced to a simple example of finding the GCF. I will lead the problem solving, but students will be engaged to work with me. In the second meeting, students will continue to practice multiplying positive fractions and finding the GCF. Again, I will lead the problem solving, but students will be asked for input. In the third meeting, students will be introduced to similar problems that they have been working on before, only this time there will also be negative fractions involved in addition to positive fractions. I will also lead the problem solving in this class. In the fourth meeting, students will be given an informal quiz to assess their retention of the material. In this class, students will lead the problem solving, and I will assist as needed. Students should be competent with multiplication and should be familiar with fractions before taking this course. Experience with division would also be helpful to students.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a nuclear engineering graduate from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's in Science. I began graduate school for a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, but due to health issues I decided to leave school and pursue my passions elsewhere--like here!
Thus, it may go without saying that a lot of classes I offer are math and science (particularly nuclear science) related.
If you have anything specific you would like to see a class on, please feel free to message me, and I will let you know if I feel comfortable teaching that topic (if I do, I will make it the next class I start offering!). Also, feel free to request class sections at other times than when I offer them; I will be sure to keep my availability updated and will be happy to see you at any of these times! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.
Much of my teaching background is in tutoring. I have listings set up for private lessons, so feel free to message me if you are interested! You will notice that my classes are a lot shorter than others, both in the length of each meeting and the number of weeks my classes run. This is because I break up concepts into their integral parts so that students can come for exactly what they need help with and skip over the parts that they are superstars at. :) Therefore, be sure to read the class descriptions carefully and select the class(es) that will best help your student!
I hope to see you and your students in class soon!
