Spelling Rules and Tools

Many students struggle with reading and/or writing because spelling causes them so much confusion.  This class will help kids see that spelling doesn't have to be so difficult.  We will tackle basic spelling rules and also cover how to remember the difference in words that don't follow basic rules.  We will talk about root words including prefixes and suffixes and knowing when to use certain words (for example, compliment vs complement or weight vs way).  

Throughout these 4 weeks we will play games and create fun manipulatives such as flip books, charts, and other creative ways to learn these rules.  This will not be a boring class!  

Each class session we will review what we learned the week before then the new rule(s) will be introduced.  We will then look at how those rules apply to that session's words and will either play a game or create a manipulative based on those rules.  

During the last few sessions of class we'll also talk about those troublesome words that even adults spell incorrectly!
