Description
Class Experience
This is a class all about the classroom. It is both for beginners to learn the Latin language through speaking, and it can also be helpful for someone who is already learning Latin to creatively think in Latin. The best way to move from learning Latin grammar and exercises to really being able to READ in Latin is to learn to SPEAK it. In this class, we will work on the following target vocabulary: [ Book, Pencil, Pen, Paper, Chair, Table, Open the book, Close the book, Take, get the pen, Put,...
My Ph.D. is in Historical Theology from St. Louis University, and I have speaking, reading, and writing proficiency as well as language certifications in Latin, French, and German. I have taught private Latin students for the past eight years, and my students regularly score very well on the National Latin Exam. I love to make Latin learning fun and interactive!
Regular students will want to review Lingua Latina per se Illustrata. You can purchase the book or look on YouTube for the book being read. The author/publisher has encouraged the use of this book for both classroom use and private study. You may want to have paper and pencil available. No other materials are needed, but do bring a smile! Learning a new language can feel unsettling, but we will have fun!
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Spoken Latin Resources: Forum: Lectiones Latinitates Vivae Traupman, Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency Latinitium.com Neolatinlexicon.org In class, we use "Lingua Latina per se Illustrata: Pars I Familia Romana" and the "Exercitia," both by Hans H. Oerberg.
