Advanced Level
In this 6-week Latin course, students will read four myths from Ovid's Metamorphoses. We will learn the basics of scansion in dactylic hexameter verse as well as several rhetorical devices employed by this great Latin poet. The four myths we will read in Latin are Apollo and Daphne; Pyramus and Thisbe; Daedalus and Icarus; and Midas and the Golden Touch. Each lesson students will have ample opportunity to translate, practice their Classical Latin pronunciation, scan lines of Latin poetry, and more, all the while honing their existing Latin skills and building on them.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the fundamentals of Latin hexameter verse
Students will learn to process and understand Latin poetry - it's quite different from prose writing!
