US Grade Kindergarten - 1
In this on-going class, learners will explore classical music written for kids, including pieces by Camille Saint-Saëns, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev, and Benjamin Britten. They'll sing simple folk songs, echo rhythms, learn solfege syllables and hand signs, dance to music by our featured composers, color a picture that represents the music heard in class, and learn about the elements of music, including: dynamics, mood, tempo, and instrumentation. Learners do not need any previous music experience or instruments to use at home. Each class will include "Fred Facts" taught by our class puppet. These facts will introduce students to our featured composers and performers. Learners will also explore the instruments of the orchestra, including one invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1761! Details from the next four classes in this series are included below. Week of January 6th: 'Tutti' from "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" by Benjamin Britten Week of January 13th: 'Decorating the Christmas Tree' from "The Nutcracker Ballet" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Week of January 20th: 'Hens and Roosters' from "Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns Week of January 27th: 'The Bird' from "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev
