Class experience
Students will start class by analyzing what a fraction is. Identifying the parts of the fraction and the proper name for each. We will then move on to what simplifying a fraction is using models to understand the concept. After this has been established will will work on doing this without models and only basing it on skill. Students will write notes on the rules for simplifying to know what number to simplify by each time if possible. We will work on a few guided practice examples together...
Students will learn what happens to a fraction when simplified and how to simplify it.
This is a lesson that I have taught both in a public school with a class of 30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. This helps me adjust the lesson to individual needs.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
