Secret Agent! Cipher Coding Camp (1 Week)

This is a one-week workshop with five sessions.  

During each session, Miss Linda will review and demonstrate 1 to 3 types of ciphers depending on interests of students and level of understanding of ciphers.  During session 1, we will start with 1- to 3-word messages.  By session 5, students will be practicing messages with full sentences.  After Miss Linda introduces a cipher, each student will take turns creating and solving coded messages by using Zoom's annotation tools and the chat. 

We will learn and practiced cipher text methods, such as:

1.  Qwerty Keyboard (alphabet substitution; A=Q)
2.  Caesar Cipher Shift 3 version (alphabet substitution; A=D)
3.  Atbash (alphabet substitution; A=Z)
4.  Rail Fence (Transposition in zig zag format)
5.  Pigpen (geometry shapes substitution; also called Diagrammatic Cipher; uses lines and dots)
6.  Pig Latin (e.g., Ice Cream=Iceyay ReamCyay)
7.  Learn to create your own cipher code with shapes and other symbols
