*Please ensure your student has a Scratch account prior to class to conserve class time* Each week this class will be walked through a beginner friendly Scratch project from start to finish Each class period will run in a similar pattern 5-10 Minutes of intros, hellos, and getting set up 35-40 minutes of a walkthrough of the project and time for Students to work 5-10 minutes of students being able to share their projects and get advice on bugs not seen during the walkthrough Why Scratch? Most traditional programming languages tend to be complicated and text-based. But not Scratch; which is a programming language built for kids. Developed by the MIT Media Lab in 2007, it is a programming environment that helps introduce the basics of coding to kids. It works as a free-ware block-based programming tool for children. Since it utilizes a visual approach, it makes coding a lot easier and simpler to understand. The best thing about it is the simplicity that it adds to learning by removing all the complicated elements of programming. No longer do children have to worry about a forgotten semicolon or misplaced bracket. It works as a perfect practice tool to help build their analytical and logical reasoning skills. Week and Project 1- "Let's Animate your Name" Week and Project 2- "Imagine a World" Week and Project 3- "Animate a Character" Week and Project 4- "Make Music" Week and Project 5- "Create a Story" Week and Project 6-"Make a Chase Game" Week and Project 7- "Make it Fly" Week and Project 8- "Pong Game" Week and Project 9-"Video Sensing" Week and Project 10- " Final Project" and time to share project We look forward to seeing your learner in class! We do offer this same class in Ongoing form as well. *It will be beneficial for your student to have a second monitor screen or to have the student watching be able to split their screen to be able to watch the walkthrough and complete it along with the instructor*
