Science Experiment: Science Is a "Lava" Fun!

Welcome to Mrs. Wilkerson’s class. During this lesson, students will be creating their own “lava lamps” while also learning basic science principles that go hand in hand. These principles will include matter and density!

Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to explain the meaning of density and matter
Students will understand why water and oil do not mix
A water bottle or jar (16 oz) , a cup of water (about 8-10 oz) , 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, Alka Seltzer tablets and their choice of food coloring (up to 2 colors). They may also want a flashlight to shine through the bottle.
I will ask questions at the end of the class to do an informal assessment.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be mixing vegetable oil and water.
