Assessment
Tim will regularly give feedback on the student's playing. This will include both things that are going well and areas for improvement. A more in depth assessment can be available upon the request of the student/guardian.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Hi there! Join me for weekly lessons to help get better at the saxophone! We'll develop a strong foundation in technique, music theory, and overall musicality. Students will learn to express themselves musically, refine their technique, and build confidence playing.

Beginning students:
-We will cover topics such as note recognition, sound production, basic rhythmic concepts and other rudimentary skills.
-We will also look at short songs, often from resources from their band class
-Cover concepts and music that were taught in band class
-Possible resources we will utilize: "Essential Elements" and "Accent on Achievement" series.

Intermediate students:
-We will cover beginning students topics. In addition, we will progress into building technical skills though scales and arpeggios, refining articulation coordination and speed, introduce voicing concepts, hone overall musical skills through etudes instead of short songs, etc.
-Possible resources: "Voicing" by Don Sinta; "Daily Studies for All Saxophones" by Trent Kynaston; "Selected Studies" by H. Voxman; "Rubank Advanced Method" by H. Voxman; etc.

Advanced students:
-Cover those skills outlined for beginning and intermediate students.
-We will expand technical studies to all 12 keys, increase speed, as well as take through the full range of the saxophone; expand voicing concepts and begin playing in the altissimo register; work on ear training/music theory concepts; expand repertoire to advanced etudes and full pieces/concertos; introduce extended techniques such as circular breathing, double tongue; etc
-Possible resources/repertoire: "Chops" by Dan Graser; "Top Tones" Sigurd Rascher; "48 Studies for Obeo and Saxophone" by Ferling; "50 Easy and Progressive Etudes" by Guy Lacour; "Aria" by Bozza; "Sonata" by Paul Creston; "Concertino" by Glazunov

The goal for all of my students is to reach a level that they do not need my help with their band class music and instead are working on more advanced concepts to further develop their playing level and overall musical skills. With beginning students, we will cover topics addressed in band class as well as other general basic skills. As progress is made, I challenge my students and help them begin to develop a critical ear to asses their own playing. This may look like creating general awareness by asking what went well and what didn't go well in a run through, asking for a rating on a scale of 1-5 on a particular concept, etc. We also work on problem solving skills by exploring different techniques to address any short comings that we may find. In the beginning I will give solutions to students, however, as the student progresses, this may look like me asking the student how to improve the issue or asking the student to reverse rolls completely and pretend that they are the teacher.

Classes are structured in live one-on-one settings formats. We will spend the majority of lessons going over assigned material, reviewing challenging spots and coming up with possible solutions to address the issue. I will also give weekly assignments for the student to take home and work though on their own.

I completely understand that things happen and come up unexpectedly. When possible, I ask for 24hrs+ notice in order to receive a full refund for cancelled lessons. Additionally, you are always more than welcome to reschedule the lesson rather than cancel.
